Exploring Ellenwood Park

Join Deanna Nauss with NS Department of Natural Resources for some fun and information on the nature found in the park. Explore the flora and fauna in the fall and the animals that inhabit the park at this time of year.  Also check out the ecosystem specific to Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park.  Participants will meet at the ski cabin/beach house.  Wear walking shoes or rubber boots depending on the weather, bring water and snacks. Women’s 40+ Biking Group: Brunch & Learn! 

 

Join our initial gathering to start a women’s 40+ bike group, with BRUNCH!

 

We will teach you everything you need to know! This will be a beginner friendly recreational group focused on fun and some exercise. There is no cost, bring a bike, helmet, & water.

Join James Dulong an avid and experienced fly fisher and fly tier , at the ski cabin ski  for a workshop on fly fishing . James will show you the basics of fly fishing and pass on a few tales of the memorable fish he has caught and the ones that got away. Please bring a fly rod, if you have one. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies will be available. Questions please call Wendy at 881-2566

Wednesday March 12 to 14 – Scout Winter Camping. The Yarmouth Scouts will be in the park for Winter Camping. They will be using the cabin as a First Aid station, but the public is welcome to come in and enjoy the fire and make themselves a cup of hot chocolate or…..

Sunday, March 16th, from 2 to 3 – Leprechaun Fun, by the ski cabin. The Leprechaun will be hiding green coins in the woods. Starting at 2PM you will be able to search for the green coins. When you find 2, take them to the ski cabin and the Leprechaun, will have a bag of goodies with some gold coins. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be available.

We will notify you if the cabin will be open at other times during the week.

 

Invitation to Attend a Public Workshop on

Landbird Species at Risk in Forested Landscapes

Admission is free but registration is required. Coffee, tea, and snacks are provided.

The Canada Warbler, Common Nighthawk, Chimney Swift, Olive-sided Flycatcher, and Rusty Blackbird are five Species at Risk that breed in our forested landscapes. This workshop will teach you to identify these birds and recognize suitable breeding habitat. You will learn why their populations are at risk, and what you can do to help steward their habitat in Southwestern Nova Scotia.

This workshop will be offered three times, at the following locations:

Annapolis Royal: Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 7:00-9:00 PM

St. Luke’s Church Hall, 342 St. George Street

Liverpool: Saturday, February 22, 2014, 1:00-3:00 PM

Queen’s Place Emera Centre, 50 Queen’s Place Dr.

Tusket Falls: Saturday, March 8, 2014, 2:00-4:00 PM

One of our members will be heading out to the park this morning, so the cabin will be open from about 9 to 12. It may be open longer if any other members are able to make it out. So stop by and enjoy a hot chocolate.

It should be good conditions for snow shoeing and for skiing,  if you are willing to break a ski trail.

Sunday, February 9th from 2 to 4 – The Yarmouth Guides will be snow shoeing into the park. The cabin will be open from about 1:30 to 4

Wednesday, February 12th – The Retired Teachers Assoc. will be walking, skiing into the park. The cabin will be open from 12 to 2.

The cabin is open to all when there are groups using it.

We will post cabin openings as members get in touch with me, that they will be going out to the Park to ski or snow shoe

We are looking for a snowmobile to pull our groomer. The type of snowmobile we are looking for is a Skido-Scandic 550 SWT-F. or Skandic SWT V-800. This type of snowmobile has a liquid cooled engine with a fan and super wide track. If you have one or know of anyone that has one please call Stephen Sollows at 742-6252.
