St. Patricks Day 2013 event a great success

What a great turnout for our St. Patrick’s Day events. We had over 100 people, walk the 1.5 KM into the park to partake of our St. Patrick’s Day themed lunch and the “Hunt for the Gold Coins” that the Leprechuan hid.

The Leprechaun apologizes to the “Little Folk” and the “Big Folk” that came with them, for running out “Gold Coins”. He and his helpers did not anticipate the positive response of this event. There was plenty of cookies, cake and hot chocolate for everyone, along with some Shamrock stickers and St. Patrick’s themed pencils.

A big thank you to Sharon, Stephen, Janice, Sundae, Margrit, Steen and Wendy for helping out with this event. Thank you also to the Recreation Department and Department of Natural Resources for their ongoing support of the Friends of Ellenwood Park.

We will be having several events in April, which will be posted later this week.

1st Wedgeport Brownie visit

It was a bit of a slushy snow shoe walk into the park, but the Brownie troop made the best of the conditions. When they got to the cabin it was nice and warm and the hot chocolate and cookies were waiting for them. It was such a mild day that we lit the outside fire, so that they could toast marshmallows. We were given a special thank you from the Brownies, Sparks and Guide along with a handmade card, they had all signed. The Friends of Ellenwood Park look forward to another visit from these girls and their leaders.

Ski trail groomer “Ellie” christened

This is a link to a video done by Carla Allen, of the Vanguard, the day we christened “Ellie” our new groomer. There was just enough snow to ski on the paved road area of the park. We have had a chance to use the groomer 3 or 4 times since this video and it is just wonderful to ski in the tracks, especially going down the hills, as you tend to fall less often.
