The Friends of Ellenwood Park wish each and every one of you a very happy, peaceful and healthful New Year. Take time to engage with Nature and enjoy all that she has to offer. You won’t be disappointed!

The Friends of Ellenwood Park invite you to join us for a leisurely stroll by moonlight on Friday, January 10th.  It’s a great opportunity for photographers or for those who just appreciate our beautiful, starry night skies.  We will meet everyone at the Mood Road parking lot at 7:00 pm and walk around the lakefront loop before warming up with a hot drink at the ski cabin and heading home by 9:00 pm.  Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight (just in case).  The next two full moon hikes are planned for Sunday, February 9th and Monday, March 9th.  **All our events are weather dependent and will be cancelled if it’s too icy or conditions are unfavourable.  Always check our website for updates before heading out.  Please take the time to sign in at the gate when you arrive!

It’s great weather for our last Bonfire and Marshmallow Roast of the season. This afternoon, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7th at Ellenwood! Join the Friends of Ellenwood Park from 2:00-4:00 at the fire pit down by the children’s playscape. The whole family will enjoy the beauty of the trees all dressed in white as you walk in… a leisurely and lovely 1.5 km down to the lake. We’ll have the coals glowing and the toasting sticks and marshmallows all ready for you. See you there!

TODAY! SATURDAY, November 9th, 2-4 pm   Bring the whole family and join the Friends of Ellenwood Park for another Bonfire and Marshmallow Roast at the fire pit down by the children’s playground. Come and experience a classic Canadian tradition beside our beautiful lake!  It’s an easy 1.5 km walk down from the Mood Road gate. Newcomers to the area are most welcome! Marshmallows and toasting sticks will be provided. *This event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if it’s too windy or wet so be sure to check here or on our Facebook page for updates before heading out.

Hey seniors!  When was the last time you enjoyed an old-fashioned picnic outdoors?  Join us for a beautiful afternoon this fall at Ellenwood Lake Park.

Your afternoon will include a delicious catered lunch and transportation to and from Ellenwood where you’ll enjoy a relaxing social get together just for seniors like you. There are four Wednesdays to choose from: September 18th and 25th and October 2nd and 9th.  10:30-1:00 or so.

You must pre-register for the program by calling  HOPE Dial-a-Ride at 742-6579. For more information, ask about Seniors’ Days at Ellenwood.  This is a FREE event made possible by a grant from Nova Scotia’s Health and Wellness Fund and the Friends of Ellenwood Park.

A BIG thanks goes out to everyone who came out to the Friends of Ellenwood garage sale in Sandford yesterday. Well… maybe not the black flies. We could have done without them, but we could never have raised $763 without your help! It will go a long way towards keeping our activities running (along with our snow mobile and groomer;-) next ski season. I hope you had some fun and found a few bargains too. Have a safe and sunny summer and we’ll see you in the fall at Ellenwood!

The lovely snow base that we cross-country skiers have been enjoying for the past several weeks is slowly melting. The Spring Equinox arrives in just 4 more days bringing more daylight hours, but not necessarily great ski conditions. Oh well… you can’t have it all! Mother Nature might still have a card or two to play. If so, we may have another chance to hit the trails at Ellenwood.
